More Of You, Less Of Me by Blugi More Of You, Less Of Me by Blugi
"Jesus must become more important, while I become less important. "

John 3:30
Contemporary English Version (CEV)

Today at church we were singing a song that says
"More of You and less of me, and more of You and less of me..."
So I got the idea for this poster which I wanted to make before, but I didn't have any ideas or inspiration until today! :w00t:

Not necessarily individuality, I think, but self-centeredness.

If they wanted it to come off that way, they shoulda said it.

As it stands, it sounds like you absolutely must surrender anything you consider "yourself" in favor of becoming one with a higher being.
I don't much appreciate that idea.

To be honest neither one of us can be certain what the artist actually meant in this piece, but seeing something or someone as more important than yourself and your wants is not the same thing as surrendering your individuality, or personality, in my opinion.

Eh, maybe instead of assuming things we can both ask the artist somehow. At least, I think I plan to ask the artist.

True, but that sort of thing doesn't really work with an omnipotent being.

See, "seeing something or someone as more important than yourself and your wants" is pretty much what you would be doing in a relationship with another human being. If the need calls for it, you'd be putting aside your own activities/desires in favor of helping them with theirs.
However, if you're talking about God, well... How does any of that really apply to him? He doesn't need your help, he doesn't need a hand to hold onto in rough times, no. The most you can do is just pray to him/follow his commandments and that's it. .-.

I think I kind of understand what you're saying, God/Jesus comforts us and we don't comfort God/Jesus, but follow him?

I'm just wondering, are you religious yourself?

Yeah, that's it. Beyond God merely wanting tribute, I don't know why one would surrender their entire being/wants or desires to him.

I really don't know. Because of the repeated and uncanny answer of prayers, I am rather inclined to believe there is a God, yet there is no actual proof to back up his existence.

Add to that the fact that Christianity has become one of the worst religions to be in. I refuse to be associated with so many idiotic, bigoted and ignorant people.
Every Youtube comment left by a religious person mindlessly bashing a video they think attacks their beliefs, every account I hear of another atrocity committed against the LGBTQ+ community, every single video trying to prove God exists while using the Bible as a source is another nail in the coffin that houses any pride I once had in Christianity.
When I was young and being brought up as Christian, I wholeheartedly believed we had nothing but humanity's best interests in mind. I thought we were a religion of love and acceptance, and not once did I ever question any of the rhetoric I was shown.

Now I'm progressing into my late teens and I'm actually starting to question things. I've gained a more critical eye of our religion, in other words.
And this eye does not like what it sees.

The only other reason I'm hanging onto any semblance of faith is because I'm afraid of what will happen if I go atheist, only to die and find out I'm wrong.
Ironic, isn't it? That I'm terrified of being eternally tortured by a being who supposedly embodies everything related to unconditional love and forgiveness.

I don't know about the song, but I if I was saying that
I would mean it as referring to Glory

Love and Acceptance?
Love, yes
Acceptance, only so far as a Sinner. Never Mixing up Evil with Good. Good = Good, Evil = Evil

I have heard of one church which does a lot of outreach to the Homosexual community, Homosexuals CAN'T hold positions of power, but are welcomed the same as all the rest of us, Sinners

The antics of Christian extremists make me facepalm and causes me to lose more faith in humanity than anything else, so I think I get where you're coming from. I question things plenty. I devoutly believe there is a God, however, and that the concept of Christianity itself really does have humanity's best interests in mind(I'm sure Christ himself did.) and that the main problem is that people just twist stuff around to suit their own desires or are just too stupid to realize that what they are actually doing is going against the very faith they stand for.

As for Hell, I think hell is defined as separation from God. When Adam sinned, he became imperfect and separated himself from God. So when you deny Him and His forgiveness, He can't save you from Satan when you die because humans have separated ourselves from Him, and the only way to get back to Him is through Jesus. So it's not God torturing you, it's Him not being there that leaves you at Satan's hands.

I really hope this makes some sort of sense, I'm not the best of explaining things when it comes to this. And please tell me if something I said somehow came out as offensive. I'm being careful with this because I have had things come out wrong in online conversations before.

Honestly, I think the "me" should be even smaller. The Master came down and served us and died for us while we were still dead in our sin. I think personally we should love God and others far more than ourselves (after all on these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets (Matthew 22:40))

but your putting a god above yourself!
you don't need god
you can and should depend on yourself and the people around you.
do you agree?

Why would I depend on people with only 1 breathe in their nostrils? When I can rely on God, the one who gives all breathe.

I disagree with you, I completely depend on God, Jesus said: "Without me you can do nothing", also you can't depend on yourself and the people around only because people fail, God never fails :D

so am right. you do have low self-esteem.
when we fail. we learn, we grow.
you need to fail to grow.
we need to embrace the failure otherwise we do not grow.
jesus lied. he's been gone for 2000 years and we've done everything but nothing.
words like fail and success to a god are irrelevant. a god is time, space, what can and will be, you, me and every living thing gone, here and coming.
it's existence is as much relevant as it irrelevant.
so forget about it and put us humans on top for a bit.

You can't say who is or what God is like or what you think He is, let God define himself by the Bible otherwise you are creating your own god

i have to say this... how do you know the bible is really written by god? (because it says it inside the book?) you'll probably tell me that it's because you can feel it. right? well what about all the other religions? they say they can feel something smiler. did god write them too? how many religions did god make? why does god need us to worship 'him'?
also can i ask what your definition of god is?
i'm interested in the christian point of view. it's very very different from mine.

Quick look up what defines a book as historical, you should find Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John- pass better than the Chronicles of Rome.

Or look up some Archaeology, Pharaoh's Army destroyed, or when the Israelites where separated and taken from their home. form most countries they vanish after that, but they returned

Just because you said that you are interested in the christian point of view I wrote this extensive reply, I hope you read it :D
It is right, also the Bible says that is inspired by God, but because those resaons don't satisfy you I'm going to give you 4 more resons of why it is the word of God:
*Its unity- the Bible was written by more than 40 different persons in a 1500 years period, contains 66 books and it contains the same message without contradictions
*Archaeological evidence- you can look it up in google
*Scientific evidence- the Bible mentions thousands of years before it was discovered: the air pressure, the shape of the earth, that in its core there is fire, etc.
*Profecy- there are many profecies in the Bible, and God revealed stuff that was going to happen in the future and it happened, for example: it predicted the 4 most important empires, how they were going to rise and fall, we have also the more than 400 profecies about Jesus and the odds for the fulfillment of those profecies in one person is practically zero, and if you want a recent one there is the one about of the rebirth of Israel.

God didn't create religions, man did, the word religion comes from the latin religare which means "to bind or connect again" becase man can't get to God because of sin, so man created religions to try to get to God by a series of rituals, but God wants a relationship with us, not a religion or rituals, that is why God sent Jesus to die for us and forgive our sins so we can get to God.

God don't "need" our worship, He has millions of angels who worship Him, I worship Him because He is worthy and it is something spontaneus that flows from me, God don't depend on me, I depend on Him.

Last but definitely not lest God's definition of Himself, there are many Bible verses about God.
God is the creator of everything, He is love, just, holy wise, invisible, one, eternal, invisible, merciful, forgiving, incomprehensible, perfect, everywhere, all powerful, doesn't change, unequaled, sovereign, hates sin, infinite, and He loves you :)

Feel free to ask if you have more questions.
